Regional flood frequency modeling for a large basin in India

چکیده

The computation of flood magnitude and its likely occurrence to design different hydraulic structures are major challenges the research community. present study has been carried out identify homogeneous regions in Mahanadi basin Chhattisgarh part (data from 26 gauge/discharge sites) India using conventional clustering-based homogeneity tests then identification probability-weighted moment L-moment-based best regional distributions for regions. Different simple complex like Extreme Value-I, Generalized Value, Logistic, Pareto, Normal Log-normal, Wakeby-4, Wakeby-5 was used analysis through standardizing procedure compute distributions. best-fit distribution selected by simulating several series L-kurtosis along with L-moment ratio diagram. confirmed that this can broadly be divided into two 15 11 stations first (Region-1) second (Region-2) regions, respectively. GEV found suited Region-1 while Pareto worked well Region-2. To make results more convenient field application, catchment area-based equations were converted form Dicken’s or Ryve’s formulae these estimate quantiles any return period.

India: Flood Management - Damodar River Basin

Information is provided about the approach and experience in flood management in the Damodar river basin of India. This is achieved through a scheme for the integrated operation of a number of reservoirs on that river and on its tributaries for the purpose of irrigation, hydropower generation and flood protection. Of particular interest is the recent change in policy towards a multi-disciplinar...

A regional Bayesian POT model for flood frequency analysis

Flood Frequency Analysis is usually based on the fitting of an extreme value distribution to the series of local streamflow. However, when the local data series is short, frequency analysis results become unreliable. Regional frequency analysis is a convenient way to reduce the estimation uncertainty. In this work, we propose a regional Bayesian model for short record length sites. This model i...

Comparison of hybrid regression and multivariate regression in the regional flood frequency analysis: A case study in Khorasan Razavi province

Background: Magnitude, rate and frequency of the stochastic and unexpected events are of great significance and importance in hydrology. Nowadays, for economic planning of the projects, the use of analytical methods of unexpected events in hydrology is unavoidable. The aim of this study was to compare hybrid regression and multivariate regression to estimate flood peak discharge in the province...

regional generalization of flood charasteristics in kerman river basin

frequency studies are, essentially, an application of the theories of probability and are based on available records of flood experiences. several methods of analysis, based on the mathematics of probabilities, have been proposed which, when applied to the same series of data, yield frequency curves which are in reasonable agreement throughout a useful range of probabilities. a widely used meth...
